Bangabandhu-1 Satellite

Bangabandhu-1 Satellite

Bangladesh joined the space age after a SpaceX rocket carrying a Bangabandhu-1 satellite streaked across Florida’s blue sky on May 12, 2018. The Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (Bangabandhu-1) is the first Bangladeshi geostationary communications and broadcasting satellite. With Bangabandhu-1 satellite launching, our government hoisted the Bangladesh flag in the space. The satellite will be a great addition to our Information Technology heralding our entry into the Satellite Club of the world. The Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will certainly bring revolutionary changes in our broadcast and telecommunications sector.

Bangladesh Government thanked Thales Alenia, the satellite manufacturing company of France, for building the Bangabandhu Satellite-1, and Space-X, the U.S., which were responsible for launching the Bangabandhu Satellite-1. Bangladesh also grateful to Russia for giving the opportunity to use their orbital slot. The primary service area of the satellite will encompass Bangladesh and the surrounding region. It will offer Ku-band coverage over Bangladesh and its territorial waters in the Bay of Bengal, as well as India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Indonesia. It will also provide C-band capacity for the entire region, according to SpeceX.  The satellite will be controlled from Joydebpur in Gazipur, near the capital, and another ground station in Rangamati Betbunia, in south-eastern Bangladesh, will be used as an alternative.
